About

Experience the magic of Meisel House, a four bedroom, nine bed sanctuary in the heart of Meisel Woods Conservation Area.

Meisel House is named after Canadian political scientist John Meisel (1923-2025) and artist Murie Meisel (1918-1986), who had the house designed and built in the late 1960s by Kingston architect Wilfred Sorensen and built in 1971 by local builder Barney Closs. The house was originally named Colimaison, referring to the helical, “colimaçon” or spiral architectural structure (like that of a snail shell). Meisel House sits atop a lovely outcrop of Precambrian shield in Central Frontenac, overlooking a small private lake and surrounded by 130 acres of conservation land.

The Meisel Woods Conservation Area was donated to the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation by John Meisel in 2000 with the goal of environmental protection.
